Mind - Body Connection
You process things intellectually rather than emotionally. You use logic to solve problems. You disconnect from yourself in order to push forward. You’re exhausted, but you keep going.
What you’re experiencing…
You haven’t been supported or validated in your emotions, so now you don’t even know what you feel. You may self-medicate with marijuana or alcohol or scrolling- whatever distracts you from your feelings. This is such a confusing place to be. When your emotions are expressed, they can feel surprising or too intense. You likely needed to disconnect from your needs and feelings to have a sense of safety at some point in your life. This is a common experience. You may have had to pay more attention to the feelings of those around you, rather than your own internal state. This way of being kept you safe and liked, but it isn’t serving you anymore. With some guidance and support, I can help you begin to reconnect with yourself and know what your needs are.
We will work together to get you in tune with your feelings and help you make choices aligned with your values.
Through exploring your history and understanding the role that emotions have played in your life, we will uncover your blocks to connect to yourself. We will use experiential and creative techniques to get you out of your head and into your feelings; like art therapy, psychodrama, and internal family systems. We will also practice regulating your emotions, so you feel more balanced and in control rather than reactive or shut down. Using techniques from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy we will give you the tools to trust yourself in going through uncomfortable feelings. By becoming in tune with your body and the present moment, you will have more access to the opportunities life has to offer you and find it easier to follow your intuition.
